Can your social media posts reflect about you and your personality? Can there be a meaning behind cryptic or wild posts late at night, beautiful selfies, excessively filtered selfies or just a simple status that indicates what is running in your mind?
Researchers have suggested that each and every post that you make on social media can tell about you, not everything but, of course, can inform your audience about bits and pieces about you.

The study revealed that the tweets of the CEOs indicated self-confidence, power-driven, and conscientious personality. While the tweets of the entrepreneurs pointed towards their personalities that craved new experience and independence.
Different Types Of Posts Reveal Different Parts Of You
Here’s a list of what different types of posts can reveal about you.
- Over-Selfie in the platform
If your social media posts are all about your selfies in different variations like one selfie showing your cute self and another selfie being a part of your Sexy Photos portfolio might look okay but it indicates that you are full of yourself. Sarah Schewitz, the psychologist, commented that a social media account that only carries selfies can indicate that the person is self-obsessed. Sometimes, posting a selfie makes sense but not always.
- Your sad status indicates you are unhappy
If you have a life that someone can only dream about and you are posting a Sad Status about you hating Monday might indicate that you are a sad soul without any gratitude. Putting gloomy statuses once in a blue moon is okay as no one is happy throughout their life, however, regular updates of such status might give an idea to your audience that you are suffering from borderline depression.
- Your posts reveal your values
The posts that you make and the comments you post give a glimpse of the fundamental principle and beliefs that you hold. Just by looking at the words that you have used to decorate the social media posts will indirectly reveal a lot about yourself.
- The tone that you use shows
Just because you are typing your beliefs, does not mean that it does not have any particular tone. The tone of your written language can be readily guessed by reading between the lines. The tone of the language refers to whether the meaning comes out to be kind, positive, rude or demeaning. Further, the tone of the language can provide anyone with a sense of your personality and how you treat other people. It is always a great idea to read out the comments that you are making to ensure that the tone is alright.
- Depressed people post more frequently on Instagram
A study by Harvard and Vermont universities has analyzed 43,000 posts from Instagram by 166 users to reveal that the frequency of the posts on Instagram is an indication of your mental health. The study has revealed that depressed people post more frequently on Instagram. Further, it was noted that such people use fewer or no filters.
- Posting too frequently about romantic partner indicates low self-esteem
The Facebook statuses can reveal a lot about your confidence level. A study revealed that the users who posted frequently about their current partners indicate that they run through low self-esteem. Similar status updates only about diet and exercise can be used for pointing towards narcissists.
Even though social media posts and statuses can reveal a lot about your personality, it is best to present your unfiltered version. Who really has the time to code and decode every time that they want to say something just to provide their skewed perfect version?
