There’s a lot all of us can do on our own to make the workday a little better. From getting a good night of sleep to eating a filling breakfast and structuring the day to tackle important projects when you’re the most alert, there’s a lot we have control of. However, there is a lot we don’t have control over too.

It’s easy for employees to get frustrated about little things in the office that may not seem like a big deal on the surface, but they can ultimately cause employees to look for a job elsewhere. Look for ways to make the workday better for everyone and you’re more likely to have happy, productive employees who actually don’t mind coming to work.

Password Manager

How many platforms, programs, and apps do you have to log into on a daily basis? Your employees have just as many that they have to access throughout the day as well. If you’re frustrated trying to remember all those passwords, you can bet they are frustrated too. Do yourself and your employees a favor by investing in a team password manager.

With a secure password manager, there’s no need for employees to try and remember unique passwords for every platform, which means they will be able to log in more quickly with less frustration.

A password manager can make work a little better in other ways too. If employees know they will be able to use a password manager, they are more likely to choose complex, unique passwords, greatly reducing the chances of being hacked.

Flexible Work Days

It’s true that a predictable workday makes life easier for managers, but it doesn’t make life easier for employees. It’s important to weigh the pros and cons of flexible work schedules before you make any decisions for your business, but it’s well worth your time to consider it carefully.

For example, if you’re interested in flexible workdays, don’t automatically assume it means you have to go all in. If you’re uncomfortable allowing employees to work in the office whenever they want, consider allowing flexible work times within a 12-hour timeframe. This can work for both in-office and work-from-home situations.

Access to Personal Devices

Employee cell phone policies can get complex. Instead of making assumptions about how you think employees will behave around their personal devices, try letting all of your employees have unlimited access to their cell phones.

You can always enact policies that limit how much time they spend on their phones later, but you may be pleasantly surprised. When you demonstrate trust in your employees’ ability to get work done, you’ll find that they are motivated to work even harder. You may also find that employees communicate more freely with each other, they find ways to be more motivated throughout the day, and because they can take care of personal issues at work, they don’t have to take time off to schedule appointments or communicate with their bank.

Skip the Meeting

Most meetings are meaningless, even if you think you have something important to say. Chances are, your employees would rather receive what you have to say as a memo or an email rather than being pulled away from their desk in order to waste time in a boardroom.

Skip as many meetings as you can feasibly skip. For meetings that must still remain, build them into your schedule. That way, employees know exactly when they will be pulled away from work instead of springing meetings on them when they’re in the middle of a project.

Encourage Uninterrupted Concentration

There are things your employees can do to improve their mental focus, but fostering an environment that supports uninterrupted concentration can help a lot. For example:

  • Schedule uninterrupted work hours during the day that all employees must abide by.
  • Encourage employees to wear headphones when they don’t want to be disturbed.
  • Make not checking email constantly the norm.

It might also mean encouraging employees to step away from work on the weekend. If you ask employees to leave their email or an important project until Monday, they have the chance to relax, which means it will be easier to focus on Monday morning.

You rely on your employees, so why not show them a little love by making their workday a little better? From helping them manage their passwords to banishing useless meetings, the ideas on this list will make life in the office better for everyone.
