How to Get Mounts in World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft lets players explore a massive world. You are constantly required to go from one place to another. For instance, a quest might send you to a location far away and then make you return to where you first started. All of this seems fun and all, but traveling can prove to be a pretty time-consuming task. Thankfully, the game lets you choose from different mounts that you can use to make traveling easier. What Are Mounts? 

To begin with, let’s first look into what mounts are. Mounts in World of Warcraft are something thanks to which you can travel from one place to another quickly. These come in different shapes and sizes. Some of them are meant for the ground, while others can let you fly as well. As you progress through the game, you’ll keep on coming across different mounts. There are players who have more than 100 mounts stored in their inventory. 

When World of Warcraft was first released, only a few mounts were available for players to choose from. The worst part was that they were also expensive to get, so not every player got the luxury to try them out. But now, these days, it’s pretty easy to get a mount as there are a lot of them available. You don’t have to worry about grinding a lot to get one, as the process of getting one has been made easier by the developers.

Now that you have a basic idea of what mounts are let’s talk about what you need to do in order to get one. We’ll first discuss how you can get a ground mount and then shift the focus towards flying mounts. Keep in mind that both have their own purposes, so it’s important to learn about both of them. Otherwise, you won’t be able to get the ultimate experience in WoW.

How to Get a Ground Mount 

You will first need to hit level 20 with your character to get a mount. After you reach this level, you’ll automatically get a quest called “Learn to Ride.” Doing this quest is necessary as you won’t get access to mounts in the game without it.

After accepting the quest, go to the Riding Trainer, whose location you’ll be able to see on the map. After interacting with the Riding Trainer, you’ll see an option called “Apprentice Riding,” requiring level 20. Select this and click on “Train.” Keep in mind that you will need a certain amount of gold to learn this skill. Once done, you’ll gain the luxury of riding mounts. An important thing to keep in mind is that the Riding Trainer will have another skill to offer called “Journeyman Riding.” After you hit level 40, make sure to return to him to learn this skill, as this will increase your riding speed, thus allowing you to cover great distances even more quickly. 

After learning the skill, you can go ahead and buy your first mount from either a Mount Trainer or a vendor. You don’t have to worry about buying a lot of them at the beginning, as only one will be enough. You can keep on adding more of them to your inventory as you progress through the game.

The mount you’ll purchase will appear in your backpack, and you will need to first learn it by pressing right-click on its icon. After you’ve learned the mount, you’ll notice that it no longer appears in the backpack. This is because it is shifted to your mount menu, which can be opened by clicking on the horse icon found in the bottom right corner of the screen. 

You can also hit Shift + P to open the menu. From here, you will need to grab the mount’s icon and put it into your action bar. This will allow you to summon the mount by pressing its icon on the action bar or pressing the associated key on your keyboard. And to dismount, you can either press the key again or engage in combat, as this will automatically dismount you. 

How to Get a Flying Mount

Now that we have talked about how you can get a ground mount, let’s talk about what you need to do for a flying mount. While learning how to ride a mount requires level 20, you’ll need to push your character all the way to level 60 for a flying mount. Once done, you’ll get a quest that will help you learn how to fly a mount.

This will take you to a Flying Trainer who will have an “Expert Riding” skill that you can learn. This will require 200 gold. If you don’t have the required amount of gold, then keep on doing quests that pay a good amount of gold. However, keep in mind that the amount of gold required might vary depending on how much reputation you have. 

After learning the skill, you can visit a vendor or a Mount Trainer to purchase your first flying mount. The Flying Trainer also offers other skills, so make sure you come back and learn them after you hit their required levels. These skills will let you fly at a greater speed and will provide you with the luxury to fly around more continents. 

After getting your first flying mount, you can access it by following the same method we mentioned for ground mounts. Compared to ground mounts, flying mounts are more fun to use, and they also let you reach high grounds quickly. You don’t have to worry about overcoming obstacles while flying them, as you won’t face any hurdles while in the air. However, while both work differently, they all contribute to making traveling easier. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to take your mount inside a building.
