Problem Scanning. Something went wrong Error is related to Scanner. This is a very common error with Windows 10, and most of the time, updating scanner drivers can quickly fix the issue.

Also, you will need to restart some Windows services.

Solution 1: Repair Corrupted Files in Windows 10

Sometimes due to corrupted system files, you can face this error with your scanner. Checking for a corrupted system file can fix the issue.

Let’s run a system file checker, a built-in tool to find and repair Windows 10 system files.

1) Open the start menu > search for CMD > Click on run as administrator from the right sidebar.

2) Now, in cmd, type sfc /scannow and press enter.

This command will scan your entire system for corrupted or damaged system files. This tool may take some time to monitor your PC, so wait.

Once the scan is finished, you can check the result. If any file is corrupted or missing, fix it.

Solution 2: Configure Services

Scanner required some services to work properly. If these related services are not properly configured or not running then the scanner won’t work.

  • Remote Procedure Call RPC
  • DCOM Server Process Launcher
  • RPC Endpoint Mapper
  • Shell Hardware Detection
  • Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)

This is a list of services you have to check. In case you might be asking yourself, how to configure these services, follow these steps.

Step 1: Open the Run with Win + R button on your keyboard and then type services.msc in the Run command box. Press Enter or click on OK to execute the command.

Step 2: Here find RPC Endpoint Mapper from list > Right-click > select properties > Start service (If disabled or stopped)

You have to follow steps 1 & 2 to start all the above services.

Solution 3: Update Scanner Driver

This is a very common problem with Windows OS. Windows operating system required drivers for each and every I/O device including Mouse, Keyboard, Webcam, Scanner, Printer, etc. If your scanner is still not working properly then you have to update the Scanner driver or Reinstall.

Now the good news is, you can easily update the scanner driver on Windows 10. You can use a manual approach to update drivers. But it will take time.

Update Scanner Driver Manually

Step 1: Go to the official website of your scanner manufacturer and go to the downloads section.

Step 2: Find your model and download related drivers. Once downloaded, simply install it like regular Windows softwares.

If you have driver files, then follow these steps:

1)  Open device manager > find scanner device and right-click on it.

2) Click on update driver > choose browse driver on your computer and select the driver.

3) Install the driver and reboot.

Update Scanner Driver Automatically

If you don’t have time or skills then, you can do it automatically with Driver updater softwares like Driver Easy and Driver Talent.

These driver tools will scan your entire system for all required drivers and updates.

Download pending updates and drivers and restart PC.
