We have witnessed some fantastic developments in the world of gaming in recent years. The introduction of mobile gaming must be one of the major developments and millions of people around the world now use their mobile phones to play games. A mobile device was only used to phone people and send text messages when it first hit the mainstream market but now, they can run the most demanding of games.

Online gaming was another of the big game changes and it is possible to play games with other people, regardless of where they are in the world. Live dealer games are a good example and by accessing a casino app, you can play table games with a real dealer and against other players from the comfort of your own home. So, we have seen substantial changes in gaming but are we about to move into a new age of interactive gaming?

Virtual reality is not a new concept and it has long been talked about in relation to gaming. Gamers have been longing for a fully interactive experience and while there has been much discussion around the subject, the technology has not been able to cope with the demands of producing a top VR gaming experience. Every time there seems to be a breakthrough and VR gaming is about to hit the mainstream commercial market there has been a setback. There was a great deal of hype surrounding VR gaming in 2015 and although it did not come to fruition back then, things have changed since and we could finally be about to make the big step into VR gaming.

Valve, Sony, and Facebook are three companies that are putting a lot of resources into VR gaming. There are a few challenges that must be met for the likes of Facebook, Sony, and Valve to reach their target of VR gaming and it begins with the headset. The current headsets are too bulky and they put people off from making the step into VR gaming. One of the reasons why people choose to play games, whether it be an online game like Fortnite or a live casino game, is because it is a fun experience that can be done while relaxing at home. Having to wear a bulky headset is not part of the equation and they can quickly feel heavy and sweaty, which is not fun at all.

However, there has been talk about VR moving in a different direction, with the social and interactive elements taking priority. VRChat and Rec Room are two good examples of online social experiences where people can get together in real-time and that could be the future of VR gaming. If VR gaming can open more social experiences with players, it is sure to become more popular and that could be what takes us into a new age of interactive gaming. All eyes are on Facebook, Sony, and Valve to see what they can produce in the near future.
