It was suddenly a question that occurred to some of our readers: why would you deposit money in a non GamStop casino with a credit card? It is a phenomenon that we sometimes see passing by. And it is not uncommon for payments to be made to a credit card to go wrong.
Most non GamStop casinos are more than happy to accept your money, but when it comes to cashing out, they are not always that keen. Moreover, you always have to identify yourself and/or verify yourself before you can pay out, and then things can sometimes go wrong.
Turns out you’re underage. Trouble. Have you entered your details, such as your initials, incorrectly? Used someone else’s credit card or bank account? Issues. It is often not intentional. A typing error is easy to make and not easy to correct!
Or quickly borrow your partner’s or parents’ credit or debit card, with or without permission. It’s done in no time, but then you end up in a trap of problems if you want to pay out your winnings.
And sometimes, there is nothing wrong with what you have entered, but the non GamStop casino just doesn’t feel like paying out. Not neat, of course. Sometimes they just seem to hold things up on purpose, for example, by asking for additional information or saying that photos and scans are not clear.
Anyway, we regularly spot players who use a credit card as a payment method, and we wonder: why would you do that? We made a list of reasons, and we are happy to share them with you!
Gambling on Credit
On non GamStop casinos forums, we sometimes read the comment: ‘Oh you deposit money with a credit card, so you gamble on credit’. As if players using the credit card, by definition, have no money.
And, of course: if you deposit money with a credit card (and then we are not talking about a prepaid credit card), you gamble with borrowed money. And this is sometimes the very reason for players to do it: it allows you to bridge the cashless period, and with a bit of luck you win and can make up your shortfall.
Then we’re going to give away a ‘spoiler alert’: you usually don’t win. The gambling industry is, of course, aimed at cheating you of your money, and in the long run, you usually lose more than you win (with some exceptions).
That is why the advice is always: never gamble with money that you do not have or cannot afford to lose. So, if you use your credit card, know that the bill will still come and that you will still have to pay it. It is, therefore, good to make sure that you have the money or are sure that you will have it later.
The first reason we have for playing with a credit card is (temporarily) not having the money to gamble and the ‘advantage’ that the credit card expenses are later debited. Or even in installments (but that is very expensive in terms of interest, so not recommended if you lose, you lose twice!).
Depositing With a Credit Card in an Online Casino Is Easy
Once your credit card is linked to your account, depositing is very easy. In most cases, you can top up your balance at the touch of a button without needing a debit card or scanner from your bank or having to log in to mobile banking, for example.
If you want to be able to play quickly, that’s handy. But you can also get that done with PayPal, for example. And there is also a danger in this convenience: the more actions you have to take to deposit, the more time you have to consider whether that deposit is necessary and sensible.
Depositing with a credit card lowers the threshold to make an additional deposit because it is so easy. And that can mean that you easily spend more money than you intended. Also because it is not immediately debited from your bank account.
In other words, if you know that you can easily get carried away at the moment and then lose too much money quickly, it is not advisable to deposit with a credit card!
But online and in non GamStop casinos, we want to use it more often. Why? Perhaps for the following reason.
Credit Card Payments Are Insured, But Is That Also True for Online Casinos?
If you order something online and pay by credit card, that expense is insured. So you don’t receive your order. Is the product no good (counterfeit from China), or are you being scammed in another way? Then you can often get your money back.
And you won’t be the first to block transactions to shady parties in advance or reverse them without you having to report this yourself.
Nice and easy, so you are protected if you do not see that you are being scammed. And of course, sometimes you can’t see it, but usually, the scam is so transparent that you can see within a few minutes that that expensive brand item is being offered so cheaply for a reason.
Is Your Deposit at the Non GamStop Casino With Credit Card Insured?
But does that also work at a non GamStop casino? We have not yet experienced it ourselves, but we sometimes hear about rogue online casinos without GamStop. We can imagine that if they are reported often enough, they will be blacklisted by credit card companies.
Then they prevent you from paying with your credit card, and if you investigate why, you will be told that something is wrong with it. That should be enough to keep you from playing there, we think.
But what if the casino is not yet on such a blacklist, and you feel scammed? Can you do something with that insurance on your credit card? Although we are not experts, we dare to say that in most cases, this insurance does not apply to your deposit in an online casino!
This is because cash, checks, vouchers, admission tickets, and tickets are excluded. So we cannot imagine that your deposit in an online casino is insured. Moreover, such insurance usually applies for a maximum amount, which is often not more than a few hundred euros.
So using your credit card because you are insured is the worst reason we mention here.
