If you are new to Windows 10, then you might not be aware of this new feature. Windows 10 comes with a new tool called “Push To Install”. This new service allows users to install softwares and applications remotely from the Microsoft store or another computer using the same Microsoft account.
Microsoft released this new update so that users can install important apps remotely without physically available. This new Push to install feature makes the installation process very easy across Microsoft devices.
Sometimes you have to disable this feature as many companies don’t allow remote access to their computers. In such cases, you have to comply with their policy and turn off Push to Install.
In this Windows 10 guide, we’ll walk you through some easy methods to stop the remote installation of apps on windows 10.
Method 1: Disable Push To Install using Local Group Policy
With the help of the Local Group Policy Editor, you can easily disable this feature. You should have Windows 10 Pro edition to access Group Policy. If you are not a pro user then you can use method 2.
Local Group Policy is a control center to customize the working environment of your Windows OS. As an admin, you can customize policies and configure some settings for your computer. Using this Group Policy setting, you can disable the remote installation feature. Only Windows 10 Pro, Education, and Enterprise users can access the Local Group Policy Editor.
1) Press Win + R to access the Run command box and then type “gpedit.msc” command. Press enter to execute the command or click on Ok.
2) Navigate to this path:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Push To Install
3) In the Push To Install Policy, there is a setting called “Turn off Push To Install service”.
4) Double-click on Turn off Push To Install service > click on disable button > Apply > Ok.
You might need to force Group Policy to apply these changes. You can do it with Command Prompt.
All you have to do is, open CMD as an administrator > type “gpupdate /force” command and press enter.
Method 2: Disable Remote App Install Using Registry Editor
1) Open Run command box using Win button + R > type “regedit” > enter. This command will open Regisry Editor.
Just like Group Policy Editor, you can turn off push to install using the Registry Editor.
Before making any changes, create a backup of all Registry. Click on menu > export > choose the location and save. Simple as that.
2) Now navigate to this location.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Policies\Microsoft\PushToInstall
3) If you can’t find the PushToInstall key, create a new one. Right-click on the Microsoft key > new > key > name it to PushToInstall.
4) Right-click on the PushToInstall key > New > DWORD (32-bit) > keep the value as “DisablePushToInstall” > save.
5) Double-click on DisablePushToInstall > change the value from 0 to 1 and click on ok to disable remote app install feature in Windows 10.
6) Restart Windows 10 to apply these changes.
How to Enable Push To Install Feature again in Windows 10?
It is very easy. Just open the Group Policy Editor again using method 1 and enable it.
If you are using registry editor, then go to push to install path again and change the value from 1 to 0.
